Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) is an estimated level of the concentration of hemoglobin in a given volume pack of red blood cells. The result is calculated by dividing the amount of hemoglobin present by the amount of hematocrit, leading to a mass or molar concentration.

The mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) is part of a standard complete blood count test. A Hemoglobin is the iron-binding protein that carries oxygen inside a red blood cell. Abnormally high levels of MCHC can happen due to spherocytosis (a genetic disorder of the membrane in red blood cells), unstable hemoglobin, vitamin B12 deficiency, or folic acid deficiency. Low levels of MCHC can occur after persistent blood loss, iron deficiency, or hypochromic anemia. Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration tests are part of general blood tests run during workplace health programs.
